Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Irish Jack Russells are amazing with children. All of our puppies are raised amongst children as well as other animals. They form very strong bonds with children and most often become life long friends!

Jack Russells are very intelligent little dogs! They can learn just about anything if they are trained with a consistent and patient hand. They are a terrier breed and do need firmness as well as praise! Many of our Patch Wood puppies are now therapy dogs, service dogs, trick dogs, models, and agility superstars!

(We also offer training for anyone that may want a little more guidance in this department!)

No, Irish Jacks make wonderful apartment dogs as well as farm dogs. They are an extremely versatile breed and can thrive in both city and country living. They do need exercise and attention but do not need large amounts of space to be happy or well-adjusted.

Yes, they do not have as strong of a hunting drive as the Parson Russells or typical Jack Russells, making them an excellent candidate for cat families. Our Jacks live with four cats and are best buddies with them!

With proper training Irish Jack Russells are wonderful off-leash. All of our dogs are frequently found off-leash running down the beach or following us through the wood trails. They naturally do not want to leave their pack leader (owner) and with a bit of training can be completely trustworthy off-leash no matter what the circumstance.

(We don’t however recommend leaving your dog unattended off-leash unlss they are in a secure area!)

Yes, we ship our puppies to approved homes throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries. We have puppies living in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Italy just to name a few! We are now shipping with Pet Nannies.

More Details

Getting a puppy when you are located too far to drive out to us can be stressful. We have been shipping to new approved homes for about 20 years and have now moved to Pet Nannies.

Once we have decided together that an Irish Jack is right for you and the puppy has been purchased, Kathleen will get to work on the transport.

We will find a date and time that works for you and then find a certified Pet Nanny to escort your new Irish Jack Russell from airport to airport.

Your new puppy will travel in cabin with a USDA registred Pet Nanny to help keep your Irish Jack, happy and safe in flight..

The puppies will get an extra vet examination to make sure they are ready to fly..

We will drive them to Boston or Manchester NH to meet their Pet Nanny and head home.  The puppies will be in a soft sided tracel crate in cabin with their own nanny. If the flight has a connection they will often come out for a potty break or food and water. We always provide food and bowls to go with the puppy on their journey.

You will want to arrive at the airport a few minutes early to make sure you are ready for your puppy’s arrival. Be sure to have a license or state issued ID in order to sign for your new puppy at the terminal.

If you have any questions or concerns please let Kathleen know.

We feed and highly recommend Life’s Abundance Health Food for pets. All of our dogs have been thriving on this super premium food for about eight years. For more information on Life’s Abundance please contact Kathleen at Kathleen@ImportedJacks.com.

We give all of our Irish Jacks their first Parvo/Distemper vaccine at seven weeks of age. They will need their second vaccination at 10-11 weeks of age and then their third and final set at 13-14 weeks. If we have the pup longer than 10 weeks we will give them their necessary vaccines to keep them on the correct vaccination schedule.

We are located in Sandown, New Hampshire. We are less than an hour north of Boston and an hour south of Concord NH.

We accept deposits on planned litters and also on puppies that are not old enough to leave our home. The deposit fee is generally $400 and will be applied to the total purchase price of the puppy. Deposits are non refundable. In the event you have a deposit on an unborn litter and a puppy of your liking has not been produced, your deposit will held and you can pick from the next litter due. Once you have chosen a specific puppy the deposit becomes non refundable or transferrable.

Our Irish Jack Russell puppies vary in price but generally are $2,000 and up and our Black and Tans generally require a reservation to be placed prior to the litter being born. We occasionaly will have a pup with small cosmetic flaws that will be priced a bit less. Please keep in mind the initial purchase price of the puppy only reflects a small portion of the life long cost of dog ownership. We strive to breed healthy and happy puppies and guarantee their health for life.

All individual dogs are different but Irish Jack Russells are bred to make excellent family companions and do not require too much exercise. They love swimming, hiking, beach runs, and any other activity they can do with their owners. Although they love to be kept busy they are generally content with a nice daily walk or romp in your yard. They do, however, require lots of love and affection!

Irish Jack Russells generally live between 14-18 years of age.

We highly suggest spaying and neutering your Irish Jack Russell puppy at 6 months of age. This greatly reduces the risk of certain health issues and keeps your pup a happy and healthly pet.

We do sell puppies to approved homes for breeding. Please email us if you are interested in a puppy, potentially for breeding.

Irish Jack Russells come in three coat types — smooth, broken and rough.  All three coat types shed but they do not have an under coat which makes for less shedding than most breeds. This makes them a better candidate for people with mild allergies.

Yes, crate training is essential in training an Irish Jack Russell. All of our puppies have begun the crate training process when they leave for their new homes. Crate training keeps your puppy or dog safe and also aids in the housebreaking process immensely. Your dog will learn to love his or her crate and it will be a safe and comfortable place to rest.

What Our Puppy Owners Say About Us

Bandit's Family
Just wanted to let you know that Bandit is wonderful and LOVES the snow! We go hiking or snowshoeing in our back woods often. I call him my personal trainer❤ Bandit is the social butterfly on our street. all the neighborhood kids(and dogs) love him, which is what I was hoping for. We are starting a canine good citizen class this week. Wish us luck. If he passes this he can start agility which is what we really want to do. Thanks and Happy New Year!

We have had a great time getting to know Jack! The girls are thrilled and my husband and I are both happy with the way he is fitting into our family...he seems to really like it here in Rindge with us. Thanks again for all your help. We would certainly let any friends who might want an Irish jack know about your farm and breeding business. I have already told some people to check out your great website! Best wishes,
Kathleen and Annie
We got our Irish Jack after talking to Kathleen and seeing all her awesome dogs  We fell in love with Bagel and was lucky it was her liter!  There is not a day that goes by that our pup Guinness does not make us laugh and smile!  We have a horse farm and from the second we let her out of the car she has become a very important part of our family!  We just love her to death.  She was a hit at the Northeast Poultry Congress.  Our boarders love her too!   She enjoys sleeping on the back of the couch when she is not cuddling with us!
The Holcombe Family
Kathleen, We purchased our male JRT and now that he has matured want to express again what a great dog you have provided to us.  He is a big guy (about 17 lbs already) and 100% bulging muscles; coat is soft and smooth, but consistent with your advertisement his temperament is wonderful.  Friendly, happy, and all of that... If you ever need a purchaser reference, feel free to give our name

We got Lucy from Patchwood Farm last May. She is doing well and today she is one year old! We moved to Florida last summer and she loves the warmer climate! She is active but we love her for that! She is loved so much!

We love our little guy! We found you by chance through a search engine. I can't stress enough how different he is from my other two. He is so laid back, and loves everyone and anyone. Training? He is so smart. From day one he loved his kennel, loved to go for walks on his leash, (the other 2 did the drop and roll on their leash) and was house-trained in no time. He is 6 months old now, and each day is awesome with him. He goes EVERYWHERE with me because he is so well-behaved. I think my husband hit the nail on the head when he compares the other two with Booga, he says it is all in the breeder's hands, I have to agree, and let me just say thank you for doing such a good job!

Juggy is doing very well! We are extremely happy with him. He is cute, smart, kind, and very playful. He loves to play with a soccer ball or anything bigger; it's funny to watch him! He is great with my kids. The other day, Mason, our oldest, got into trouble and started crying, which upset Juggy.  He looked like he was then one in trouble with his ears laid back, and came over where Mason was sitting to give him kisses.  He didn't leave his side until he stopped crying. He still loves to eat and has been lucky enough to steal a few things from the table. He is very good at jumping, especially when he tries to reach the food people have in their hands. He is loved by everyone who meets him.
The Trump Family
My family and I just wanted to thank you so much for our bundle of joy! Macey is doing fantastic and brought so much happiness to our family. My father, brother and fiance came and picked her up in December. We recommend you to anyone who wants a great Jack Russell! We have had so many people ask us where we got Macey and we gave them your name and website. She is very healthy and so much fun! Thank you again!

Dolly is growing up into quite a lady! Her white coat is lovely! I think it is so unusual, and her spots have come in dark, giving her a Dalmatian look. My sister-in-law thinks she looks like Spuds Mackenzie. At any rate, she is fun. I have a handicapped little girl in my life. She is here with me almost every day. She adores Dolly. And although Dolly has good energy, she seems totally in tune with Georgia and her disabilities. We must be very careful with Georgia as she has a severe brain injury, and Dolly seems to know that. It is also a great opportunity for Georgia to learn to be assertive when Dolly is licking... Georgia must push her away on her own. It has been SO fun to watch. Of course, they spend most of the day on the floor together. Dolly clamped to Georgia's diaper, being dragged around on the floor. Thanks again for our Dolly girl and I will be in touch.

Hi, and Happy New Year ! Our puppy is named Abby now. I forget what you called her. She is doing very well. She is intelligent, obedient, and very friendly. She begins puppy school next week. She loves bigger dogs. She is very social with all dogs, however. She loves to run, walk, jump.
The Shea Family
Maggie has certainly been a joy as we've learned what it's like to own an Irish Jack, but we wouldn't trade any of these experiences! Maggie is such a sweet, clever, energetic little girl... Although she rules the roost over our dachshund, she has settled into our family nicely. I've never seen a dog try so hard to fit into our lifestyle... you can see her trying to figure out what we want her to do (or not do!). She has learned several tricks, has never met another dog she doesn't find fascinating, and adores everyone who arrives at our house, be it one of the kids' friends or an appliance service person! Thank you for breeding this wonderful example of an Irish Jack... she has a super friendly temperament, a gorgeous coat, an athletic build, and a winning way to our hearts!
